Sarah Jessica Parker is speaking candidly about her Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw’s relationship with Mr. Big (Chris Noth).
Ahead of the upcoming third season of And Just Like That…, a sequel to Sex and the City, Parker, 60, told E! News on Tuesday, May 27, that when it came to Carrie and Big, “All of it was a mess, and all of it was wonderful.”
She further spoke on the tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship between Carrie and and Big throughout the original show’s six-season run — which is often dissected and debated by viewers today on social media — as well as Noth’s reprisal of the role on the first season of And Just Like That….
“It was romantic, and it was a disaster,” Parker said of Carrie and Big’s relationship, adding, “It was destructive, and it was healthy. Big dying was really, really hard to do both professionally and personally. That’s not just a thread. It’s one of the main arteries that you would struggle to do without.”

The actress continued, “It was really sad to say goodbye to that. It’s not like I needed it for my own health or wellbeing, but that was a hugely wonderful story to tell for a lot of years.”
Following Big’s unexpected death in And Just Like That…, viewers saw Carrie grieving as a widow. She later rekindled her past romance with old flame Aidan Shaw (John Corbett).

In a trailer for the new season, Carrie is heard narrating, “There’s nothing like summer in New York City, with its hot days and even hotter nights. Something new and unexpected always awaits.”
